The In-Fair Zoo that was built in 1937 on a roughly 16.560 m2 area within Kültürpark as the first zoo of Turkey has been transformed into the 391.000 m2 Wildlife Park in 2008 and thus has become the first wildlife park of Turkey. The İzmir Metropolitan Municipality fully completed the project that was started in 2006 within 2 years. The Wild Life Park, where animals live in habitations that are much like the ones they have in their natural environments and plenty of trees and fauna help the city and the citizens breathe, has become one of İzmir’s areas of highest attraction in a short period of time. İzmir Wild Life Park sits on a 425.000 m2 area and is home to more than 1200 animals of over 120 different species. As the number and variety of animals increase, more work is being carried out in the park regarding the happiness of the visitors and the education of children.
In accordance with the decision taken by the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality on 11 January 2010, the İzmir Wild Life Park has applied to the European Association of Zoos and Aquariums (EAZA) for candidacy and on 3 April 2011, became a full member of EAZA.
