SunExpress was founded in October 1989 as a subsidiary of (two world class airlines) Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa. Today, SunExpress carries more than seven million passengers per year and is one of the leading airlines in terms of passenger numbers between Germany and Turkey. The home base of SunExpress is in Antalya on the Turkish Riviera The second most important base is the hub Izmir on the Aegean coast.

Turkish Airlines is the national flag carrier airline of Turkey, headquartered in the Turkish Airlines General Management Building on the grounds of Atatürk Airport in Yeşilköy, Bakirköy district, Istanbul. It operates scheduled services to 146 international and 41 domestic cities (38 domestic airports), serving a total of 187 airports, in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas.

TAV Airports undertook the operations of Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport International Terminal – sitting on an area of 118,000 square meters – on September 13, 2006. TAV Airports has won the tender held by the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI) at the end of 2011 and got the operating rights of Domestic Terminal on January 2, 2012 until the end of 2032. TAV Airports will invest 250 million Euros in the airport. As per the tender specifications, TAV Airports will build the New Domestic Terminal with an investment of 250 million Euros and the Domestic and International Terminals will be connected by a bridge system similar to the one in Istanbul Atatürk Airport.
