Karavan has been active in the tourism industry since 1969. The company is owned and managed by the Baltazzi family, which has a long tradition of hospitality in Turkey. Sultan Abriiil Mecid was a guest in their Izmir (Area) home in 1850 as was Sultan Abdul Aziz in 1863. Aristide Bey Baltazzi was officially recognised for his contribution in organising the first international exhibition in Istanbul (The "Osmanli Sergisi"- The Ottoman Exhibition") in 1863, which created the first tourism group movement ever to Turkey. Demostene Bey Baltazzi was member of the Imperial Ottoman Exhibition Commission fort he Ottoman pavilion at the 1873 Vienna Universal Exhibition.

Alex Baltazzi was chairman of the organising committee of the first International Tourist Fairs in Turkey, Meturex İzmir 1992 and 1993. To these experiences and traditions the Baltazzi family has added modem methods and technology to create the Karavan Mice of today leaders in destination management, be it meetings, incentives, conventions or events. Karavan has been awarded the Golden Medal by the İzmir Chamber of Commerce for the foreign currency brought in during 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.
